"It Is Well With My Soul," was written by Horatio Spafford. Many tragic events happened in his life, but none more tragic than the death of all four of his daughters. They sunk along with the SS Ville du Havre, while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. He was inspired to write the hymn "It is Well With My Soul" while passing near the site of his daughters' death. He wrote:

     When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
     When sorrows like sea billows roll;
     Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to know
     It is well, it is well, with my soul.

     Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

     But Lord, 'tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
     The sky, not the grave, is our goal;

     Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul.

     And Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
     The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
     The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
     A song in the night, oh my soul!

What a heart wrenching and powerful story! Even in times of great trial, we can know that God is victorious. I pray that none of us has to endure hardship the way Horatio did, but I do pray for a firm foundation of faith for us all.
